| dc.description.abstract | 2.1Introduction SARS-COV-2 pandemic has affected everyone including teachers at both primary and secondary schools. Social distancing, as one of the measures to thwart further spread of the pandemic, seems to be impractical in areas of congestion such as primary and secondary schools where teachers’ work is centred. Not knowing the prevalence of SARSCOV- 2 among teachers poses great risk of transmission and infection. This study focuses on determining the prevalence of history of SARS-COV-2 infection among teachers both at primary and secondary schools at Blantyre in Malawi. 2.2 Type of Research study ➢ Mixed Quantitative and Qualitative study 2.3 Research question ➢ What is the prevalence of history of SARS-COV-2 infection among primary and secondary school teachers in Blantyre, Malawi? 2.4 Objectives ➢ Broad Objective ✓ To assess prevalence of SARS-COV-2 amongst teachers in schools found in Blantyre ➢ Specific Objectives 1. To estimate enumeration of teachers with symptoms of SARS-COV-2 i.e., cough, fever, ageusia, anosmia and sore throat. 2. To determine the proportion of teachers who had SARS-COV-2 tests and those that tested positive and identify the test method used. 3. To determine whether the illness led to isolation, hospital admission, and/or administration of oxygen within the hospital premises. 4. To determine the complications post covid-19 illness 5. To identify the underlying medical conditions in those who tested positive for SARS-COV-2.2.5 Study design and data collection methods A cross sectional study of History of SARS-COV-2 among primary and secondary school teachers in Blantyre, Malawi. A sample of 600 teachers in primary and secondary schools will be taken. The proposed study will utilize a mixed-methods approach involving qualitative methods and desk-based documents review. Questionnaires will be utilised in collection of data. 2.6 Data management and analysis Recordings and anonymized transcripts will be kept in password-secured computers. The proportion of people with symptoms will be calculated. The proportion of people that tested positive will also be calculated.2.7 Expected results and dissemination The study is expected to find high positivity rate in teachers as compared to the general population. The results will be submitted to COMREC and will be presented during students’ dissemination conference. | en_US |
